Concrete Pour Rescheduled For Thursday Feb 17

At 12th Street Intersection on South Side of H Street NE

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has authorized its contractor to close the south side of the H Street intersection with 12th Street to through traffic from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 17, 2011.

The closing is necessary to accommodate the pouring of concrete for the streetcar track slab. This was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but has been rescheduled, and the intersection will be open to traffic on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the 700 block of 12th Street – this is the block just south of H Street – will be available only to local residential traffic. Northbound and southbound motorists are encouraged to use 13th Street as an alternative. Pedestrians may cross H Street at the 11th or 13th Street intersections during the period the 12th Street intersection is closed.

The intersection was closed during daytime hours on Tuesday, February 15, for the installation of the streetcar tracks across the intersection in preparation for the concrete pour.

New Traffic Signals at 5th & H Streets, NE to be Activated
Thursday, February 17, 2011

(Washington, D.C.) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will activate new traffic signals and pedestrian walk-wait signals at the intersection of 5th and H Streets, NE on Thursday, February 17, 2011.

The new traffic signals were put into service on flash mode and will remain in flash mode until the new signals are activated. The DDOT procedure for activating new signal lights at intersections that were not previously signalized is to operate them on flash mode for seven days to allow motorists and pedestrians to become accustomed to them. In flash mode, the traffic signals are flashing yellow for H Street traffic, and flashing red for 5th Street traffic.

Also on Thursday, the traffic signals at the H Street intersection with 3rd, 4th, and 6th Streets will be switched over from the old fixtures to the recently-installed new fixtures.

During this period, the 700 block of 12th Street – this is the block just south of H Street – will be available only to local residential traffic. Northbound and southbound motorists are encouraged to use 13th Street as an alternative. 5th & H Streets NE

5th & H Streets NE Area Residents and Businesses, Please Note:
The new traffic signals at the H Street NE intersection with 5th Street are now on flash mode in preparation for full activation next Friday, February 18. Detour signs will be posted, and flaggers will be on hand to assist motorists and pedestrians.
10th Street Intersection – Saturday, February 12
The south side of the H Street intersection with 10th Street will be closed to through traffic from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, February 12. During this period, the 700 block of 10th Street – this is the block just south of H Street – will be available only to local residential traffic; 10th Street is one-way south, and southbound motorists are encouraged to use 8th Street as an alternative.
The closing is necessary to accommodate the pouring of concrete for the streetcar track slab across the intersection.
11th Street Intersection – Friday, Saturday & Monday, Feb 11, 12 & 14
The south side of the H Street intersection with 11th Street will be closed to through traffic from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm on Friday, February 11; from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm on Saturday, February 12, and from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday, February 14. The 700 block of 11th Street – this is the block just south of H Street – will be available only to local residential traffic.
Motorists are encouraged to use 13th Street as an alternative.
The closing is necessary to accommodate streetcar track installation across the intersection on Friday and Saturday and the pouring of concrete for the streetcar track slab on Monday.

Detour signs will be posted, and flaggers will be on hand to assist motorists and pedestrians.

The south side of the H Street intersection with 10th Street will be closed to through traffic from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm on Tuesday, February 8, and from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm on Wednesday, February 9. The 700 block of 10th Street – this is the block just south of H Street – will be available only to local residential traffic; 10th Street is one-way south, and southbound motorists are encouraged to use 8th Street as an alternative.
On Tuesday, the contractor will prepare the intersection for pouring the concrete for the streetcar track slab. On Wednesday, the concrete will be poured for the streetcar track slab. [NOTE: If the Wednesday temperature is too cold to pour concrete, the work will be rescheduled on the next work day with suitable weather.]
11th Street Intersection – Thursday & Friday, Feb 10 & 11
The south side of the H Street intersection with 11th Street will be closed to through traffic from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm on Thursday, February 10, and from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm on Friday, February 11. The 700 block of 11th Street – this is the block just south of H Street – will be available only to local residential traffic.
Motorists are encouraged to use 13th Street as an alternative.
